Our Team at Women of Whitehorse is made up of some amazing women all with different skill sets, qualifications and life experiences, but each woman is motivated, supportive and committed to our Community. Read about each of our team members below.
I’m Jennifer, mum to three Teenagers aged 13, 15 and 18. My background is in Project Management and after taking over 10 years out of the workforce to bring my children up and assist my elderly parents I struggled to get back into the workforce. I then started a business providing admin assistance to the elderly and with that I did all my own Social Media – blog writing, setting up my own WordPress Website, Facebook Ads…until that eventually evolved to providing a Social Media Management Business called Leave it with Me – which i still run.
I’ve always been a social person, a connector, organiser and a traveller. When others said wouldn’t it be good to do this….I did it. I love the sense of Community, Connection, and Collaboration. I set up the WoW page to share local information and connect women and support local businesses. Initially as a Facebook Page, then a Newsletter every 6 weeks, then Instagram, and a Facebook Group. I kept adding things like Workshops, Competitions, Events and a Website. I have now turned it into a business offering Business & Social Memberships.
WoW is not just for business women or mums, but for all women of all ages and diversities living, working and visiting the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne to connect, maybe do some business, but also to make new friends and catch up with old. Most importantly it is about Community and bringing women together, whether that creates business or brings women together who are going through the same thing or share the same interest…how fantastic to meet new local women and be open to the possibilities that you would not have had the opportunity to otherwise.
Founder of WoW
My name is Dawn Maxa and I’m excited to be part of the WOW team as facilitator of the monthly Lunch and Learn sessions.
A time management extraordinaire with meticulous attention to detail (perfectionist much?!). I am creative, a talented problem solver, keen adventurer and lover of the outdoors and motivated, driven, action taker.
A busy Mum of 2 primary school aged kids living in the city of Whitehorse, I seem to be naturally gifted at creating space and organisation in a way that completely reduces overwhelm when large competing priorities are at play.
Addicted to learning, the role of Lunch and Learn facilitator seems to suit me well. I have studied Business Communications at university, Obtained an advanced Diploma in international travel as well as a diploma in interior design. I have trained under David TS Wood, I’m a graduate of the internationally recognised Money and You Program and I’ve successfully lead sales teams as a business development manager for over 10 years. I’m also experienced in HR and workplace culture as co-director of a building design firm.
Having travelled extensively, I am enthusiastically driven to give back in the world and wholeheartedly believe that the world is our community and therefore our responsibility, I am passionate about empowering other women to Thrive in life, to shift from apathy to action and to affect change in the world, through my business Modern Mums Movement.
You can connect with me on Facebook @modernmumsmovement or Instagram @modern_mums_movement or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Online Workshop Facilitator
I’m Maree Sortino from The Social Secret and I am incredibly excited to join WoW as your resident Social Media Workshop Instructor! I’m a business owner, mum of 2 girls, lover of a good Netflix series and tragic fan of 90s boy band music (#NKOTB4EVA).
With degree qualifications in Marketing and Communications, as well as years of experience working with both large corporate organisations and small business, I found there was a lack of good quality training in the areas of Facebook and Instagram and in 2017, The Social Secret was formed!
I am passionate about helping business owners navigate the complexities associated with Facebook and Instagram. Advancements in technology have completely revolutionised the way we market to consumers. I bring along with me a wealth of knowledge and creativity to make this process as easy as possible. I love to ‘think outside the square’ and come up with concepts the client would never have even thought about.
I look forward to seeing you in one of our Social Media Workshops in 2021!
I’m Jane and I’m very excited to join the inspirational team at Women of Whitehorse. My role as Co-ordinator will be quite varied helping out wherever needed. From researching/setting up/co-ordinating of events, co-ordinating partner agreements, to assisting in writing blogs on café’s and local restaurants.
I’m married with 4 teenage children. I enjoy going on long nature walks, playing tennis, travelling and catching up with family and friends on a regular basis. My moto is to enjoy life, to have as many experiences as possible and to try to look on the bright side of life.
My professional background is a HR Practitioner in numerous law firms which included recruitment and selection, counselling, performance management, training, mentoring, project management, induction to new employees, the list goes on … I’ve also worked in HR in The Netherlands for a transport company for a couple of years which was very rewarding. Up until recently, I had my own business selling jewellery and accessories which I really enjoyed. I enjoy working within a diverse, dynamic team and love a challenge – so I’m really looking forward to getting started with WOW!

I am a local mum who is juggling a hectic fulfilling life with my gorgeous 5 & 14 year old daughters. Photography has always been a part of my heart and soul. I volunteered to be a part of this incredible opportunity for WoW in December 2017 for a Christmas celebration. I have since become part of a beautiful team of talented women who inspire me on every occasion with their gifts and talents.
I have loved and studied photography for a long time, and as someone who has clicked up over 90,000 images on their mobile phone alone within the last few years, I realised my addiction to this art form could be put to good use again in the correct forums. Albeit this is not my current profession, it is a passion that I would like to enhance and develop as a permanent income stream. Dreams are created by giving it a go, and your best shot … literally for me.
I would welcome any opportunity to capture what is important to you in your home or working lives. I love being part of a team and organising and experiencing all the wonderful opportunities WoW provides, as well as meeting the most incredible, supportive, empowering, motivating and delightful women within the community.
My name is Amelia and I’m a freelance copywriter. Writing professionally has been a dream realised for me as I have loved writing since I was a young girl. I particularly appreciate that much of my work is based locally – I’ve lived in Whitehorse and Boroondara my whole life. It’s fair to say I think the mid-eastern suburbs are a fantastic part of Melbourne in which to live and work.
I feel privileged to be part of Women of Whitehorse and to be able to write about food – a topic for which I’m extremely passionate. I love the whole experience of eating out – not just the food but the ambience, the interiors and the service. I also love to photograph beautiful looking food and restaurants, something I’m fortunate to do as WoW’s restaurant reviewer/food writer. I also write professionally for a number of real estate agents, and have recently worked on the WoW website content. I plan to work more broadly in future.
I’m married with three children, two sons and a daughter, so between my work and family, life is chaotic. I’ve recently started practicing yoga, which I’m thoroughly enjoying and finding a great antidote to a hectic life. In my spare time I love to read, cook, write, listen to podcasts, walk our gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgeback and spend time with friends and family.
